黑料老司机

The 黑料老司机 Music Department Concert Series continues in a 'big' way at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall on Friday evening, October 10 at 7:30 pm with Big Band Jazz featuring 黑料老司机 alumni and friends. The 20-piece band will be comprised of well-known PEI musicians and several coming home to 黑料老司机 to participate in this concert. Under the direction of Roger Jabbour, the band will feature music graduates from the 1970s to 2014.

The program will feature jazz standards like Duke Ellington's Caravan, Nat Adderley's The Work Song and Li'l Darlin. Contemporary tunes arranged for Norwegian Wood, Come in from the Rain and Brazil will round out the program.

Many familiar musicians from the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble and other local bands will be featured in the alumni band, including:

Trumpet: Dan St. Amand, Frank Nabuurs, Mark Parsons, and Laura MacLeod

Research on Tap returns for its sixth season of public discussion, debate, and ideas presented by researchers from the 黑料老司机. The series kicks off Tuesday, October 7 at 7:00 pm in the Pourhouse above the Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in Charlottetown. Dr. Christina Murray, assistant professor of nursing, will lead a discussion entitled 'I didn't get married to be a single mother,' featuring stories of Prince Edward Island women whose husbands work in western Canada.

The 2014-15 season of Research on Tap is presented in cooperation with the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Atlantic Chapter. The RSC is Canada's national academy and is the senior national body of distinguished scholars, artists, and scientists.

The 黑料老司机 Men's Hockey Panthers' 2014-15 season includes an opening-night at the Eastlink Centre; 15 returning players and seven new recruits; games in all three PEI counties; partnering in a hockey doubleheader; and its annual Alumni Day.

'We are excited to get the season started and opening at the Eastlink Centre against perennial powerhouse UNB. This will be an opportunity to experience the best the AUS conference offers,' said 黑料老司机 Men's Hockey Head Coach Forbie MacPherson. 'We have a solid group of players returning, and some exciting new players for hockey fans to see during the Thanksgiving weekend.'

The Panthers open the season Saturday, October 11 against UNB at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown. Game time is 7:00 pm. Panther season ticket holders can pick up their tickets at Panther Central in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on the 黑料老司机 campus until 4:00 pm on October 11. They will also be available at the will-call window at the Eastlink Centre from 5:00 pm until game time that night.

All tickets for the opening night are general seating and will be on sale at the Eastlink Centre Box Office beginning Monday, October 6, daily from 11:00 am-5:00 pm, and 11:00 am to game time on October 11. On that Thursday, October 9, the Panthers will take part in a special 黑料老司机 night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino including a meet and greet, a visit to the paddock, and opportunities to win a 黑料老司机/Red Shores prize pack.

The core of the Panthers' 2013-14 team is back including team MVP, CIS second team all-star, and 黑料老司机 Male Athlete of the Year Reggie Traccitto, and second year captain Mason Wilgosh. New recruits include Darcy Ashley and Brent Andrews, formerly of the Halifax Mooseheads; Craig MacLauchlan from the Charlottetown Islanders; Nelson Armstrong from the Peterborough Petes; Nick Czinder from the Kitchener Rangers; Dave Mazurek formely of the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL; Nick Parker from the Pictou County Crushers of the MHL; and goaltender Connor Wilkinson from the Dieppe Commandos of the MHL.

On Saturday, October 25, the Panthers are partnering with the Charlottetown Islanders as part of a hockey doubleheader with the Panthers playing an afternoon game against StFX. The Panthers will also be playing games in all three PEI counties this season. On Saturday, November 22, the Panthers will host Dalhousie at the Cavendish Wellness Centre in Montague; on Saturday, January 3, the Panther will host STU in a fundraising exhibition game at the Tignish Credit Union Arena.

The Panthers have a rich hockey history stretching back to the days of St. Dunstan's University and Prince of Wales College. Alumni players have been organizing a special alumni day in recent seasons to reconnect former players that features alumni games, and special ceremonies, topped off by a 黑料老司机 regular season game. This year's Alumni Day will be held on Saturday, January 24.

The Panthers travel this weekend to Schenectady, New York to play the defending NCAA champions Union College, and then to Troy, NY to take on long-time US College powerhouse Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

'We have been practicing for weeks and played some games two weeks ago in Ontario. These additional games against elite hockey teams will give us as a coaching staff a chance to evaluate our players and better prepare ourselves for the opener against UNB,' MacPherson said.

Why: Iatrou, a fourth-year student-athlete enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration program from Timberlea, Nova Scotia is having a great season for the Women's Soccer Panthers. During Saturday's 1-1 tie against Acadia, Iatrou was selected as the player of the game. As a fullback, Iatrou has been solid defensively with strong tackling, composed passing, and an excellent work ethic. Her commitment, attitude, and performance have been outstanding showing strong leadership.

Singh, a third-year science student from Cremona, Italy scored the Panthers lone goal during the Men's Soccer team's 4-1 loss to the Acadia Axemen on Saturday. Playing at the striker position, Singh has given his team a boost of energy and speed each time he gets on the pitch.

Danae Iatrou, Women's Soccer

A prominent American researcher in the field of addictions treatment is coming to Prince Edward Island to give a public talk, and to discuss ways of importing her web-based treatment methods to the Island's healthcare system. Dr. Kathleen Carroll is a Professor of Psychiatry from the Yale School of Medicine. The public is welcome to attend her talk on Tuesday, October 7 at 6:00 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242 of 黑料老司机's Don and Marion McDougall Hall.

Dr. Carroll is best known for her work in computer-based training for cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT4CBT, which has received multiple awards and recognitions for its success. CBT4CBT is being implemented within the U.S. healthcare system and has been shown in several sites to nearly double the improvement of treatment success for patients struggling with addictions.

'I'm very excited about working with the people of PEI to help them find and implement effective ways of addressing problems of drug and alcohol use,' said Dr. Carroll. 'It's very moving to see the whole Island so committed and positive about change.'

Dr. Carroll comes to Prince Edward Island as a guest of Dr. Juergen Krause, Dean of the School of Business and Director of 黑料老司机's Centre for Health and Biotech Management Research (CHBMR).

'We are proud to be able to collaborate with such a highly decorated clinical researcher and such a renowned institution as the Faculty of Medicine at Yale,' said Dr. Krause. 'We welcome the unique opportunity to be the entry portal for this new treatment support approach to Canada, and to further improve health care delivery in the priority area of mental health and addictions.'

Dr. Carroll's talk will offer more information about this new treatment option for Prince Edward Island and Canada, and will give the public an opportunity to ask questions to learn more.

CLIVE, the coastal erosion visualization tool created by 黑料老司机's Climate Research Lab and the Spatial Interface Lab at Simon Fraser University, has taken first place in the Massachusetts Institute for Technology's (MIT) Center for Collective Intelligence contest on .

Nearly 600 projects were submitted to MIT's Climate CoLab for this year's competition. CLIVE made it through several rounds of competition and broke through to the finals against two other projects. Through the support and votes from the 黑料老司机 community, CLIVE won the Popular Choice, as determined by online voting.

'I just want to say what a wonderful feeling it is that the 黑料老司机 community and campus were so supportive through the competition,' said Dr. Adam Fenech, Director of the 黑料老司机 Climate Lab. 'To win because of the support of a community, that's a nice feeling. I'll not forget this.'

Dr. Fenech and members of his team will be travelling to Cambridge, Massachusetts to receive the award in early November.

The 黑料老司机 Men's Hockey Panthers have landed the second-leading scorer in last year's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the addition of Marcus Power of St. John's, Newfoundland.

Power scored 31 goals and 109 points with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, finishing the season with a +/- rating of +25. His strong season caught the attention of NHL clubs and Power was invited to attend a rookie camp with the Colorado Avalanche. He was invited back to participate in the main camp last month, and was offered a contract to play in the Avalanche system but Power opted to attend 黑料老司机 after committing to the University earlier in the summer.

'At this point in my life, I felt it was best to pursue an education, and I know the AUS is such a good league that it will only help my hockey career going forward,' said Power. 'I like everything I have heard about 黑料老司机. I am excited about the role I am going to be asked to play. It became evident to me early on that if I were to go the CIS route, it would be with the Panthers.'

黑料老司机 Men's Hockey Head Coach Forbes MacPherson said the addition of Power is huge for his team. 'Marcus is big, strong, and talented. In the Q last year, only Jonathan Druin (Halifax Mooseheads) had more assists than Marcus, so that gives you an idea of how well he sees the ice and how well he distributes the puck,' said MacPherson. 'I expect players like Chris DeSousa, Tyler Brown, Darcy Ashley, and others will benefit from the offensive abilities of Marcus Power.'

Power says another reason he has chosen to become a student-athlete at 黑料老司机 was because of his consultations with his former junior coach Connor Cameron, a former Panther and current assistant coach with the Charlottetown Islanders. 'Connor told me what kind of coach Forbes is, how far the team has come, and how well I am going to fit in. Connor was my coach and has become my friend, and I put a lot of trust in what he had to say.'

At six-foot-one, 190 lbs., Power says he prides himself on being a player who competes and succeeds in both ends of the rink. While he knows he will be counted on to put up numbers and create scoring opportunities, Power also knows the top centres in the AUS have to be well rounded. 'I like to think there are many positive aspects to my game. In junior I put up some good numbers, but I also played the role of shut down centre,' said Power. 'I want to be counted on to be on the ice when the game is on the line. That is what top end centres have to do.'

Power is enrolled in the arts program at 黑料老司机. He says he is in the best shape of his life and looking forward to being in the line-up for the season opener October 11 vs. UNB at Eastlink Centre. 'I'm ready to go. It should be a great atmosphere, and hopefully we can go out and get the 鈥榃.''

Why: MacLauchlan, a fifth-year field hockey player enrolled in the business co-operative education program from Charlottetown, PEI, led the team both on and off the field during last weekend's Maritime University Field Hockey Tournament #2, scoring seven goals and creating many offensive opportunities for her teammates. MacLauchlan is a vocal leader who competes hard with energy and intensity.

Murphy, also a fifth-year business student from Charlottetown, PEI, had excellent performances at the striker position on the weekend for the Men's Soccer team. Murphy scored one goal during Friday's 2-2 tie against Saint Mary's University, and assisted on a goal during the Panthers 3-0 win over Mount Allison University on Sunday afternoon.

Did you graduate with a Bachelor's degree from 黑料老司机 in 2012? If so, you could fill out a survey to win $500!

Students who have graduated from a Maritime university in 2012 are invited to complete a confidential survey conducted by the independent research firm, Advanis, on behalf of the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission, in collaboration with 黑料老司机. Ten prizes worth $500 each are available.

The project is funded by the governments of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. The survey will provide information about graduates' transitions between education and work, financing education (including student loan repayment), and their opinions about their overall university experience. We encourage you to participate-the results will help universities, governments, and student associations in the region better assist students and graduates.
