Upcoming recitals and with changes to previous dates:
The recital by Liquid Architecture scheduled originally for Friday, February 3 will now take place on Sunday, March 26 at 2:30 pm at Dr. Steel Recital Hall. This recital features Linda Pearse, bass trombone; David Rogosin, piano; and Joel Cormier, marimba.
The recital by eklektikos, directed by Dale Sorensen, will be held on Tuesday, February 14 at 7:30 pm at Dr. Steel Recital Hall.

The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) will hold the 27th annual International Development Week (IDW) February 6-11. 黑料老司机 is a proud member of the ACIC and will host two events for IDW.
IDW brings together the PEI members of the ACIC and development groups from across the country. 2017 also marks the 42nd anniversary of the ACIC.
Cinema Politca Charlottetown will screen The Real Thing: Coca, Democracy and Rebellion in Bolivia Monday, February 6 at 6:00 pm in room 246 of 黑料老司机鈥檚 Don and Marion McDougall Hall. The film explores the United States鈥� 鈥渨ar on drugs鈥� and how it has affected the people of Bolivia. The screening is free, but donations will be accepted in support of student Fallon Mawhinney鈥檚 forthcoming trip to Bolivia with and . There will also be a raffle basket and popcorn for sale.
Thursday, February 9 from 5:00-7:00 pm, there will be a panel discussion on the topic of violence against women. Panelists include:
- Sally Armstrong, a three-time Amnesty International award winner and member of the International Women鈥檚 Commission at the UN
- Masuma Asad Khan, a third-year IDS student at Dalhousie University, campaigns and outreach coordinator for the Equity and Accessibility Office for the Dalhousie Student Union, and president of the Dalhousie Muslim Student Association
Timothy鈥檚 Caf茅 in Charlottetown will host presentations by NGOs and youth representatives of the ACIC on Sunday, February 11 from 2:30-4:30 pm. Timothy鈥檚 will also host displays from NGOs during the entire IDW.

Difficult Dialogues is a biannual student academic conference, that highlights issues that may be considered difficult to have conversations around. The conference runs February 10 and 11 and is sponsored by at 黑料老司机.
includes presentations from students from around the Atlantic region. Presentations run Friday, February 10, from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm and Saturday, February 11 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Dr. Alexandre Baril, a post-doctoral fellow at Dalhousie University, will deliver a keynote presentation.
Registration begins Friday at 1:00 pm in the Dawson Lounge of SDU Main Building. The lounge will be used as a social and gathering space throughout the conference.
All events are free, accessible, and open to the public.

Abstract: Parrondo's Paradox states that two losing gambling games when combined one after the other (either deterministically or randomly) can result in a winning game. An analogous question in discrete time dynamical system: can two chaotic dynamical systems be combined so that the new dynamical system behaves in an ordered (non-chaotic) manner? In this talk we consider random composition of two chaotic Markov maps on an infinite partition and prove that the new dynamical system behaves in a nearly ordered manner. Also, we prove the existence of infinite absolutely continuous invariant measure.

Each will be accompanied by Frances McBurnie, piano.

In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements.
Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for 黑料老司机 Faculty, Librarians and Clinical Veterinary Professionals and four Presidential Awards of Merit for 黑料老司机 Staff will be awarded in 2017. These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.
Susan Connolly, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources & Legal, will lead the process and chair the committee to select award recipients.

Call for applications from potential graduate students for the 2017 Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship will support the training of researchers at the masters or doctoral level to pursue animal welfare research at the 黑料老司机. Both applied or more fundamental approaches to research pertaining to animal welfare are welcome. Students may take up their award at any time of the year but must do so within 12 months of the date of the letter of offer. Applications for 2017 will be accepted until 12 noon AST on Friday, February 17.

Matthew Dunlop, MSc student, and Christian Agatemor, PhD student, will each present a seminar on Wednesday, February 01, 2017 at 12:30 pm. Matthew Dunlop's presentation is entitled "鈥淣anocrystalline Cellulose Sourced from Island Tunicates鈥� and Christian Agatemor's presentation is entitled 鈥淥rganoiron-Mediated Synthesis of Functional Macromolecules". The seminars will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre, Room 212.

Student Affairs is beginning to organize Mental Health Week 2017. This year a student-led, one day conference focused on Mental Health and Wellness using a peer-to-peer model is being organized.
The committee is open to any and all students. We hope to have a variety of people on the planning committee to bring together the diversity of knowledge, skills and abilities that the campus community holds. In creating our conference, we strive to build a collaborative and supportive temporary community that will have lasting impacts on our 黑料老司机 community, the individuals within it and beyond.

Campus phone service will be disrupted Thursday, January 26 to facilitate upgrades to campus phone equipment. The outage is scheduled for 5:30 pm to approximately 6:00 pm. The outage will cause all phone and voice mail service to be non-functional. Certain line service to critical areas and departments (Security, VTH, Residence) will be functional.

黑料老司机 has a weekly knitting and crocheting group open to all students, staff, faculty, and friends.
From beginner to expert, all levels are welcome. Supplies and guidance are currently available for beginner knitters and we hope to be set up to teach crocheting in the near future.
