The Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Congregation of Notre Dame and the 黑料老司机 Chaplaincy Centre invite 黑料老司机 students, faculty, and staff to meet with Monica Lambton, JPIC Coordinator from Montreal. Lambton will be on campus on Friday, October 31, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm in the Chaplaincy Centre. Attendees will gather and mingle at 11:00 am, and Lambton will present from 11:30 am-12:30 pm, followed by a Q&A discussion until 1:00 pm. Lambton will discuss climate action and the New York March. 黑料老司机 students are going door-to-door in surrounding neighbourhoods to collect non-perishable food items on Friday, October 31 from 5:00鈥�7:00 pm in support of 黑料老司机鈥檚 food bank.
Trick or Eat庐 is a youth-led national event that puts a new spin on the annual night of giving 鈥� Halloween. Instead of candy, thousands of Trick or Eaters across the country raise money online and go door-to-door to collect non-perishable food items for local food agencies. We also raise awareness about hunger in Canada through household flyers, educational materials, and online resources.
Suggested items include: pasta products/pasta sauce, rice, canned meats and fish, peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, dry and canned soups, fruit juices, canned/powdered milk, baby food, diapers, and beans and legumes.
黑料老司机 students, staff, and faculty can drop off any food donations to the Residence Office, Bernadine Hall, 340 (first floor). The office is open from 9:00 am-8:00 pm. All proceeds will support 黑料老司机鈥檚 Food Bank.

Admission is $5.00 per person, and $4.00 if you show a valid 黑料老司机 or Holland College student ID. Admission includes a free cup of hot chocolate. Proceeds from this event will go towards music scholarships and awards, and to help support the large performance ensembles of the Music Department.
Dr. King Holmes, the 2013 Canada Gairdner Global Health Award Laureate, will be on campus Monday, October 27 to deliver the 2014 Gairdner Lecture at 黑料老司机. The lecture begins at 6pm in room 246 of Don and Marion McDougall Hall.
The 2014 Gairdner Lecture is entitled "STI Research: Major progress, current challenges and future opportunities."
Dr. King Holmes is a Professor in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington where he is the Director of Research and Faculty Development, a Professor of Medicine, and an Adjunct Professor of Microbiology and Epidemiology. He is the Director of the U of W鈥檚 Center for AIDS Research, as well as the Chief of Infectious Diseases at Harborview Medical Centre.
The Canada Gairdner Awards were created in 1959 to recognize and reward the achievements of medical researchers whose work contributes significantly to improving the quality of human life. They are Canada鈥檚 only globally known and respected international science awards, and Gairdner is the only national organization that consistently brings the world鈥檚 best biomedical researchers to Canada to share their ideas and work with scientists across the country. In so doing, it enlarges networks and enhances Canada鈥檚 international reputation, while providing a realistic and unbiased benchmark for Canada鈥檚 leading scientists.

Dr. Sarah Malek, Department of Biomedical Sciences will present a seminar called "FTIR spectroscopy as a diagnostic tool in canine osteoarthritis" on Tuesday, October 28 at 3:30 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Join the 黑料老司机 Panthers and the Charlottetown Islanders as they host Hockey Day in Prince Edward Island on Saturday, October 25 at the Eastlink Centre. The 黑料老司机 Panthers will take on the StFX X-Men at 3:00 pm, and the Charlottetown Islanders will take on the Quebec Remparts at 7:30 pm. 黑料老司机 faculty, staff, and students can purchase a special combo ticket for $10 to enjoy both action-packed games. On Monday, November 3, 2:00-4:00 pm, a safety inspection workshop (location TBD) will be held to learn more about workplace inspection processes. It is open to everyone, free of charge! The session will educate attendees on how to prepare, inspect, report, and follow-up on workplace hazards. The workshop, led by Lori Wakelin, Education Consultant with the Occupational Health and Safety Division of the PEI Workers Compensation Board, uses group and individual activities involving common hazard scenarios and sample forms to guide you along in your next workplace safety inspection.
During the last 15 minutes of the session, Denise Bustard will review the University's internal inspection procedures and forms. A short nutrition break will be provided.

On Sunday, October 26 at 2:30 pm, the 黑料老司机 Music Department will play host to a "triple header" at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall.
The "Piano Collective," a group of four pianists playing eight-hand music on two pianos will make their debut in a performance featuring beloved music of J.S. Bach, Mozart, Glazunov, Mendelssohn, Moszkowski, and Bizet. The occasion also marks a celebration for Professor Emerita, Dr. Frances Gray who officially retired this year after serving forty-five years as Professor of Piano and Theory in the Music Department of the 黑料老司机. Dr. Gray will be accompanied by three alumnae of 黑料老司机 who all studied piano with her in the Music Department, Stephanie Cole, Morgan Saulnier, and Jacqueline Sorensen Young.
As a tribute to Dr. Gray's years of contribution to the Music Department, the afternoon will launch a Music Scholarship for outstanding student performers in the Music Department.
Heather Taves returns home to PEI and the 黑料老司机 Music Department on Friday, October 24 at 7:30 pm where she will present her solo piano recital entitled Come From Away at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall. Drawing on the stories her parents, and her aunts and uncles told about their lives, Taves' recital at 黑料老司机 will trace the history of her family as refugees from Russia in the 1920s to 1968 when her family moved to Prince Edward Island. Heather鈥檚 musical journey will include pieces by Chopin, Debussy, Stravinsky, contemporary composer Keenan Reimer--鈥怶atts, as well as Taves' own composition 鈥淢y Mom and Glenn Gould: A Two Part Invention.鈥�

黑料老司机 faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell Lectureship in Law on Friday, October 31 in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, room 242 at 1:30 pm. This lecture is co-sponsored by the 黑料老司机 and the Law Foundation of Prince Edward Island. The lecture series was named to honour Thane A. Campbell, Rhodes Scholar, former Premier of Prince Edward Island, and first Chancellor of the 黑料老司机.
This year's speaker is Mary Anne Waldron, QC, Professor of Law at the University of Victoria and Associate Vice-President Faculty Relations and Academic Administration, who will present her lecture entitled "Equality and Conscience: Can the Law Protect Both?" Waldron's current research relates to questions of freedom of conscience and religion. Her most recent book "Free to Believe: Rethinking Freedom of Conscience and Religion in Canada" was awarded the Canadian Law and Society Association 2014 prize for best book on issues of law and society. This lecture is free and all are welcome to attend.

黑料老司机鈥檚 Department of Student Affairs, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and the PEI Breast Cancer Information Partnership will introduce Breast Health 101 to the 黑料老司机 campus. This will be the first time that Breast Health 101 is offered on a Canadian university campus.
Breast Health 101 will be offered by a pioneer in the development and implementation of the PEI Breast Screening Program on PEI, Norah Smith. Norah is the PEI Provincial Breast Screening Coordinator, represents PEI nationally on a number of boards, and has over 20 years of experience in breast health. 黑料老司机 faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to sign-up for a session.
Sessions will be held on November 13, 14, and 20 from 12:15-1:00 pm in the Student Affairs boardroom. A boxed lunch will be provided for attendees. Sign-up is required, as space is limited to 10-12 participants per session. To sign up, please contact Krystal Mayne at kmayne@upei.ca.
