What are the effects of tidal turbines on fish, and how can researchers measure them? Dr. Haley Viehman, postdoctoral researcher at the Acadia Tidal Energy Institute, will discuss the current state of the art in answering questions such as these. Haley completed her PhD at the University of Maine, monitoring fish presence and behaviour at the site of the first tidal turbine deployed in the USA. By combining a variety of hydroacoustic technologies and sampling techniques, Haley and other members of her lab have begun to understand how fish may interact with tidal energy devices. Now at Acadia University, Haley is applying her experience to the new 2 MW tidal turbine deployed in the Minas Passage of the Bay of Fundy.
The seminar will take place at 2:30 pm on Friday, March 17 in Room 128B of the School of Sustainable Design Engineering. The 40 minute presentation will be followed by a time for questions and discussion.
